Forging Cyber Connections: Insights from the UK Cyber Security Business Mission 2024

From 4 to 7 November 2024, we proudly concluded a dynamic Cyber Security Business Mission to London, UK, designed to create international opportunities for Singapore-based cyber security innovators. 

Co-organised by the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA), CyberSG Talent, Innovation, and Growth (TIG) Collaboration Centre, and SGTech, this mission united industry leaders, experts, and key stakeholders to deepen connections and engagement with the UK cyber security market. 

 

Our UK Mission by the Numbers:

  • 8 Singapore participating companies  

 

Through our eight group sessions, we connect our Singapore companies with the local ecosystem partners and industry leaders so they can gain better insights on how to enhance their market presence in a strategic manner.

Grow Global ProgrammeIt supports foreign companies looking to invest in London’s growing cyber security sector, offering various resources and opportunities across the UK to help them succeed.

Meeting with Plexal, Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) and techUK 

Plexal’s Cyber Ecosystem Support: Plexal showcased programmes designed to support the UK’s cyber security ecosystem, collaborating with both government and private sectors.  

The Cyber Growth Partnership, led by the Digital Minister and techUK CEO, drives UK cyber security sector growth. Supporting this is the Cyber Exchange Platform, connecting companies with innovative UK firms and sector opportunities, fostering a stronger cyber security ecosystem.  

National Cyber Strategy: DSIT provided insights into the UK government’s National Cyber Strategy 2022, highlighting funding initiatives to support cyber security activities.  

 

Industry Expert Session with Mr. Gary Kinsley from CyberQ Group

Partnership Model: Mr Gary Kinsley, Chief Revenue Officer of CyberQ Group, provided key insights on how to structure the channel and sales support model and strategies for crafting the partnership model. 

 

Engagement with InnovateUK


UK-Singapore Innovation PartnershipThe bilateral partnership between the UK and Singapore for collaborative R&D and innovation projects was recently renewed, with cyber security as a key focus area. 

Digital Security by Design: InnovateUK’s Digital Security by Design (DSbD) initiative aims to transform digital technology, creating a resilient and secure foundation for a safer future.  

 

Engagement with Disruptive Cyber Group 

Outsource of Penetration TestingMr Phillip Blake, Managing Director of Disruptive Cyber Group shared how threat intelligence products and tools, OT and many organisations are looking to outsource their penetration testing, which may be a key segment for our companies to engage. 

 

Industry Expert Session with Mr Ash Hunt from Apex Group 
 

Driving Cyber Success in the UK 

Mr Ash Hunt, Global CISO and Advisor, Apex Group, shared groundbreaking insights into the UK’s first quantitative framework for information risk. He highlighted strategies for scaling effectively in the UK market and emphasised using data-driven storytelling to position cyber security solutions as cost-saving or revenue-generating tools.  

 

Inward Investment Session with Manchester, West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Invest North East England 



Representatives from various inward investment teams of various regions shared emerging market opportunities for cyber security solutions in their region. They also shared incentives available to support foreign companies entering the UK market.   

 

Meeting with Lloyds Bank Innovation Hub  

Mr Robin Scher, Head of Fintech Investment, deepened our understanding on UK’s banking and financial sector landscape, including trends in digital banking, security requirements and customer needs.  

 

Networking Success!  

Besides the group sessions, the networking reception on 6 Nov, which was attended by 33 UK participants, also provided an excellent platform for Singaporean companies to connect with the broader tech ecosystem in the UK and potential partners, fostering relationships for future collaborations. It was successfully held with the support of our outreach partners, Global Tech Advocates, TechWorks and techUK.  

 

The Cyber Security Business Mission to the UK has been a game-changer for our companies, offering unparalleled insights into the UK’s dynamic business landscape and cyber security sector. Participants made invaluable connections, opening doors to opportunities in the UK and European markets.
