Unlocking New Frontiers: Cyber Security Business Mission to CyberDSA 2024
We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of our Cyber Security Business Mission to Malaysia, held from 5-9 August 2024 in Kuala Lumpur. This mission was part of our ongoing efforts to foster international collaboration and expand market opportunities for Singapore-based cyber security companies.
Jointly organised by the CyberSG Talent, Innovation and Growth (TIG) Collaboration Centre and SGTech, our business mission brought together a dynamic delegation of industry leaders, experts, and key stakeholders to explore and deepen their engagement in the Malaysian cyber security market. The mission was a success, with 8 cyber security companies exhibiting under the SG Pavilion, which was supported by Enterprise Singapore.
Mission Overview
With a clear mission to CONNECT with industry heavyweights, LEARN from market insiders, and engage in targeted BUSINESS MATCHING, our companies did not just attend—they made an impact. The Singapore Pavilion at CyberDSA 2024 served as a launchpad for showcasing our innovative cyber security solutions to a highly engaged audience.
Key Activities
Our delegation, comprising eight leading cyber security companies from Singapore, participated in four high-level group meetings with key market players and regulators, including PIKOM, MDEC, CyberSecurity Malaysia, and TM One.
- Meeting with PIKOM: Mr. Ong Kian Yew, CEO of PIKOM, provided valuable insights into the cyber security landscape in Malaysia and discussed potential areas for collaboration. PIKOM’s research report on cyber security opportunities was highlighted as a key resource for companies looking to enter the Malaysian market.
- Engagement with CyberSecurity Malaysia: Chaired by Mr. Zulfeka Bin Zainal Abidin, General Manager, Chief Executive Officer’s Office, this session focused on the demand for cyber security products and solutions, relevant regulations, and the role of CyberSecurity Malaysia in talent development. The discussion also explored data sovereignty and the promotion and cultivation of cyber security talent.
- Discussion with MDEC: Mr. Raymond Siva, Head of the Digital Investment Office, presented the requirements for setting up cyber security companies in Malaysia, emphasising talent issues and available government incentives such as Malaysia Digital (MD) status. The demand for Singaporean cyber security products was a key highlight.
- Session with TM One: Hj. Shamsul Shaari, General Manager of Strategy & Marketing, led a discussion on compliance, certifications, partnership models, pricing strategies, and data sovereignty concerns. Our companies were also able to present to and field questions from Ms Raja Azrina Raja Othman, CISO, TM Group and Dr. Saiyid Syahir Al-Edrus, General Manager, Cybersecurity Services, TM One.
In addition to these group meetings, a total of 75 individual meetings were arranged for the participating companies.

Networking Success
Our business mission also included a targeted Networking Reception to complement our mission objectives. The session, attended by 61 participants, provided an excellent platform for Singaporean companies to connect with potential Malaysian partners, fostering relationships that will undoubtedly lead to future collaborations. Notable attendees included BG Edward Chen, Defence Cyber Chief of MINDEF, Singapore, as well as various dignitaries from PIKOM, CyberSecurity Malaysia, MDEC.
Looking Ahead
Building on the success of this mission, we are excited to announce upcoming Cyber Security Business Missions to the UK (4-8 November 2024), CyberSec Asia 2025, Bangkok (20-24 January 2025), and the RSA Conference 2025, San Francisco (28 April to 2 May 2025). These missions will continue to support the international expansion of Singapore’s cyber security sector.
Participant Feedback
The mission received positive feedback from participants, who valued the opportunity to gain deep insights into the Malaysian market and establish meaningful connections. Jonathan Phua, CEO of InsiderSecurity remarked “The CyberDSA business mission, organized by SGTech and Cyber TIG, is a fruitful trip for InsiderSecurity. The CyberDSA exhibition provided us with introductions to potential local partners and customer prospects. Beyond the CyberDSA event, we had meetings with senior officials from relevant Malaysian government agencies, i.e. MDEC and Cybersecurity Malaysia. We also had the opportunity to connect with PIKOM, Malaysia’s counterpart to SGTech, to meet with potential partners. It is clear that this business mission was far more productive than if we had organised a trip independently. Our sincere thanks to the organisers and Orissa International for organising this good trip.”
Conclusion
The Cyber Security Business Mission to Malaysia 2024 has set a solid foundation for future collaborations and market expansion efforts. The benefits and impact created by this mission are a testament to the effectiveness of such initiatives in driving growth and innovation for Singapore’s cyber security companies. We are committed to supporting our companies as they navigate the challenges and seize the opportunities in the global cyber security landscape.
Stay tuned for more updates on our upcoming missions and join us as we continue to explore new frontiers in cyber security.
